Sokeri-Jussin Kievari
The Tavern Kitchen

The Sokeri-Jussi Tavern cooks unpretentious, delicious meals out of local ingredients. Our specialty, Grandma’s Kitchen, is traditional Northern Ostrobothnian food at its best.

The food culture of Oulu is based on eastern and western influences with a pinch of Lappish exoticism. The willingness to experiment that is characteristic of the food tradition in seaports has left its mark on the food tradition – the ingredients brought home by the sailors took root quickly.

In the Tavern kitchen you can taste the original food culture created by Oulu’s international history. Mushrooms give a Russian touch. Juicy fish baked on the stove represents the western tradition.

On the Grandma’s Kitchen menu the local, Northern Ostrobothnian tradition is brought into an appetizing whole. The vendace from Lake Oulu, elk meat balls and buttery mashed potatoes are the best possible examples of the culinary history of the region.
